Throughout the history of the Church, countless saints, spiritual fathers, and mystical writers have described the Christian interior life in great depth. Yet many of these teachings are scattered across extensive works, expressed in the language of other eras, or presented through particular experiences that are not always easy to organize and understand in a practical way.
For this reason, many Christians journey through their spiritual lives without a clear understanding of the process they are experiencing. They are unfamiliar with the normal stages of interior growth, do not always know how to interpret what is taking place within their souls, and may become confused or discouraged when dryness, spiritual combat, darkness, or trials arise.
The Divine Work seeks to present, in a simple and orderly way, the spiritual path along which the Good Lord leads the soul, from its first steps in faith toward an ever deeper union with Him.
To make this path easier to understand, the essay examines it through spiritual ways, progressive states, and spiritual ages, showing the transformations God brings about within the soul and helping readers recognize where they are, what may be occurring in their interior lives, and where the Lord is leading them.
Its pages journey through the different stages of spiritual growth and help readers understand God’s action in prayer, interior purification, suffering, dryness, the dark nights, and the graces that accompany the soul’s growth.
An invitation to know and recognize the Divine Work that the Good Lord carries out, step by step, in the deepest part of the souls of His beloved.

THE ORDER OF THE KNIGHTS OF SAINT ANTHONY
PART I — DISCOVERING GRACE
The Order of the Knights of Saint Anthony was born from the desire to tell, through an exciting adventure, the path every soul is called to walk in order to attain true happiness: a path on which we gradually leave behind what binds us while receiving graces and blessings that transform us, sanctify us, and allow us to discover the beauty of the life the Good Lord has given us.
The story begins in the midst of ordinary life: family, affection, work, friendships, wounds, and dreams. It is precisely within this human reality that grace breaks in and an adventure begins—one that will carry its protagonists much farther than they ever imagined.
CALL → GRACE → BROTHER → FORMATION → DISCERNMENT → TRIAL
The Order welcomes the young protagonists into a community where they discover that no one walks the spiritual path alone. They must learn to fight together, recognize their gifts and weaknesses, share their wounds, serve others, and allow themselves to be formed.
The Monastery and the Spiritual Course will help them discover that the soul can ascend toward God, but can also descend progressively into different forms of slavery. The trials they encounter along the way will carry this formation ever further.
In the Agon Mentis, the battle reaches into the intellect itself, where they learn that one of the most dangerous lies can hide behind a partially distorted truth. In the Probatio Deserti, many of their certainties disappear, and faith must cease to be merely an idea they have learned and become trust that is truly lived.
Amid adventures, battles, friendship, dangers, and unexpected events, the protagonists gradually discover that a grace may be hidden behind every trial and that Providence can use even the humblest instruments to answer a prayer.
Young people—and some who are not so young—this story was written with you in mind: so that, as you accompany its protagonists on this adventure, you may also discover your own path and allow the splendor of the one true King to dispel the darkness around you and lead you to encounter Him.

THE ORDER OF THE KNIGHTS OF SAINT ANTHONY
PART II · DISCOVERING THE MISSION
This second part continues the adventure exactly where the first ended. After a harsh trial in the desert, the protagonists return to their brothers strengthened but exhausted, and their elder brothers immediately care for them. They have grown spiritually, but they must still learn to guard the graces they have received and allow themselves to be transformed by them.
Through a life of prayer, family and community life, forgiveness, and detachment—proper to the Purgative Way—the protagonists discover that, before helping others, they must allow the Good Lord to transform their own lives and purify them within.
Their encounter with the Vaelics confronts them with a new reality: not every battle is fought with weapons, and not everything is what it seems. They learn to discern and recognize the enemy’s lies, even when those lies appear under the guise of truth. Later, they must turn that same gaze inward to purify their hearts deeply through the Scrutiny of the Heart.
Their formation finally leads them to the Investiture and their mission to Scotland, where the adventure takes on a missionary dimension. There they discover the limits of their own strength and understand that the gifts they received were not given for their glory, but to serve, console those who suffer, and help rescue those who remain captive in darkness.
It is then that the story begins to reveal, through the adventure itself, a true sequence of evangelization: someone suffers, and that need calls forth a response; the disciple, transformed by grace, is called and sent; he enters the reality of the one who suffers, listens, and discerns; he discovers that his own strength is not enough and learns to trust in God’s action and in the power of His Word.
But the mission does not end with the battle. What matters most comes afterward: finding the captives—those trapped in darkness—freeing them, tending their wounds, feeding them, supporting those who can no longer walk, and leading them to a community that can receive and accompany them. Finally, the one who has witnessed God’s work returns as a witness and can proclaim to others what he himself has experienced: the Good Lord is good, He loves, and He does not abandon us.
For defeating the enemy is never the true goal; the goal is to rescue the captives and bring them back to their brothers, who await them in the Church.
Written especially for young people—and some who are not so young—this second part continues to portray, through an adventure filled with friendship, trials, dangers, and battles, the spiritual path of the Purgative Way. It is a path of purification and transformation that prepares the disciple for service, evangelization, and mission, until it opens before him the doors to a completely new stage filled with graces, lights, and discoveries: the Illuminative Way.
